Thailand belongs to Southeast Asia. The neighbors
are Cambodia
in the east, Laos
north, Burma
west and Malaysia
in the south. There is something special about Thailand: Thailand
has never been colonized.
Thais are generous and friendly people. They are proud, curious,
very helpful, tolerant and hyper superstitious. Approximately 90%
of the population are buddhists. The language is thai (related to
Sanskrit).
Hit by the southeast Asian economic crises (triggered by the drop
of the Thai baht), the country is slowly recovering. By today one
could say that it's stable again - though not back (and we guess it
never will get back) to those "glorious" times when every
wesstern country was amazed about the yearly economical growth and
those diligent Asian People ... who they are - no doubt!
Tourism is booming. Thailand
is great to travel. People don't hassle you, they don't stare at you.
The Thais like it comfortable and having a good time and definitely
no stress. Whether you are traveling with a group or alone (male or
female), it's most of all relaxed and pleasant.
Bangkok is the capital with a population of roughly 9 million people.
The metropolis is very international and fast. Even though some
tourists get annoyed by noise and air pollution, Bangkok is a
fun city. Stay at the Hotel or sleep in daytime and then go
out at night. You can eat, shop, do whatever you want 24 hours a
day. Move fast with motorbike-taxis, move safe and clean in cabs,
or try the inexpensive public transport.
The king's 72nd birthday was finally the starting day of Bangkok's
long awaited skytrain. In 4 years
of construction 55 billion baht were spent to have an elevated train
running from Mo Chit to On Nut and from the National Stadium to
Sathon, covering in total 23.5 km of rail track. With 35 trains
running at present, there is no waiting.
