| WELCOME to NOI's ARCHIVE of OLD PRINTS and CURIOSA On this site I put on display a part of my collection of old prints. These are all originals.
Years ago, it was out of admiration for the arts and crafts of the "Belle Epoque" era that my interest for the history of that time was growing and it became a passion. I loved to read anything about that period, the turn of the last century (1890-1910), and I began to collect old newspapers, documents, magazines, illustrations from that time - in a word ... it was nostalgia. I decided to put up for sale a selection of the weekly supplements from the French newspapers "Le Petit Journal" and "Le Petit Parisien", depicting historical events, featuring huge illustrations on the front and the back page and sometimes on the middle page, there are also illustrated advertisements inside. The size of a supplement is about 12" x 17" (31 x 43 cm) and the large pictures were viewed as sensational.
In the old days, every illustration began as a drawing and to reproduce it on paper, the artist engraved the drawing on stone, wood or a copper, steel or zinc plate, a meticulous work, and then applied ink and printed it, later on the coloring was done. Thinking about the artists who made the illustrations appear on paper, their time-consuming workmanship, that's the feeling which makes these documents valuable.
Since the newspapers depict different facts on the front, the back and sometimes on a
middlepage, you may find for instance a print about China, on a backpage, classified in the
category "America", then probably the picture on the frontpage of the same newspaper shows
an event about America. These rare editions are suitable to be framed and look very nice with some matting done. They beautify home, office, workplace or clubhouse with history and one can find them in some museums in Belgium and France for example. They also make unique
gifts on every occasion for your friends, loved ones or business associates.
You'll also find fashion prints, travel journals, photographs, postcards, labels on this site, for example lithographic printed suitcase labels issued by Italian hotels in the 1920's and 30's, rare items chosen for their beauty. The content of this site will change from time to time. If you have requests on certain subjects, or if you want to know the price of the items, do not hesitate to contact me by email.
The prices depend on the collectors' value and the condition of a paper, expect a price
range of 10 - 50 Euro (10 - 50 US dollar) for a newspaper, 10 - 20 Euro for a fashionprint,
2 - 7 Euro for a label for example.
You will also find a selection of Ikat, handwoven silk sarongs under the category
"Textiles" and in the near future this site will also boast a "Curiosa" collection, rare items and ethnographic objects will be available at affordable prices. So, be prepared there's more to come.
I hope you will enjoy yourself while exploring this website,
Thankfully yours, Noi.
